Hey, welcome to Good Goings! A hopefully regular-ish series where I’ll celebrate some stuff that has happened or is yet to happen in the otaku sphere. The world can bring us down sometimes so it’s important to kick back, relax and remind ourselves of the things we’re happy about. It feels like it’s never been a better time to be a geek nowadays so pop on the kettle and let’s get cracking with what goodies have come up this month…
I might as well make a monthly otome corner considering how many goodies we’ve been getting recently! First up is for the TaiAli fans! Pestering the otome gods appears to work as TAISHO x ALICE Episode 3 [PC] is releasing on Steam in March 2021. This installment adds another two husbandos, the frosty Snow White and mysterious Wizard. Personally, I’m enjoying these episodic releases (mostly because I can never finish games in a timely manner 😅). At any rate, it’s a good sign that TAISHO X ALICE has been popular enough to warrant further releases. Hopefully we’ll continue to see support for the PC otome market.
Here’s a more surprising announcement: Touken Ranbu – ONLINE – [PC] is receiving an English version. Touken Ranbu is a web browser game that involves leading a battalion of personified swords to protect history’s course. Ship waifus, pigeon husbandos, why not a legion of bishie swords? We don’t judge here. You can pre-register here to receive notifications and bonus items to better whet/woo your chosen swordsmen.
Had enough cyberpunk yet? Why not try a BL take with Nitro+CHiRAL’s absolutely NSFW DRAMAtical Murder [PC]. Yes, JAST BLUE announced the localisation years ago but it’s actually coming soon-ish, because you can preorder a lovely limited edition containing a physical copy, OST, Steam key, digital artbook and two random chara pins. Looking at the different pricing for the Steam version ($19.99 USD) on JAST’s site compared to their own ($24.99 USD) seems to indicate that the Steam version will be for all-ages while JAST’s will be the full adult version. Hopefully they produce a DLC to restore the cut content like they did for Sweet Pool.
One of my big hoorays was spotting a Steam release for Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen [PS4/PC], which is the prequel to the excellent Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth duology. Mask of Truth was my 2020 Game of the Year so I’m hyped to see the start of the saga become more widely available.
I tend to stick to news about English releases here but I’m making an exception for TYPE-MOON’s cult classic visual novel, Tsukihime – A piece of blue glass moon, which is getting a remake for PS4 and Switch in Summer 2021 (thanks Siliconera). So far, only a Japanese release has been announced but I’m dreaming of an English translation someday considering the popularity of other TYPE-MOON franchises like Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners) and the forever spinning-off Fate series. On that note, please please can we have an English localisation for the original Fate novels?!
I like collecting soundtracks. My wallet doesn’t. Importing CDs is usually costly but thankfully Spotify is pretty well-stocked and even better now for adding the sublimely catchy Persona 3/4/5 and Catherine soundtracks. Thank you AniPlaylist for the head’s up. I’ve recently found their website a great resource for keeping up with current season OPs and EDs.
Keep your eyes peeled for New Pokémon Snap [Switch] sliding into view on April 30, 2021. Happily, this isn’t a remake of the N64 Pokémon Snap but a new installment taking place in the Lental region, where you’ll investigate the mysterious Illumina (read: glowy) phenomenon. Considering many people are stuck indoors, this seems like a lovely distraction until sunnier days. I still vividly remember throwing an apple at a charmeleon and seeing it evolve into a majestic charizard. I hope this one brings back that magic because the visuals look stunning so far.
There you go. A bunch of things that put a smile on my face and hopefully yours too. Let me know about your own Good Goings in the comments and have a great day!
